Candidates do not fail the Logical Reasoning Test because they cannot reason. They fail it because they bring outside knowledge into a passage that only rewards what it states. QuickPassâ„¢ breaks that habit first, then rebuilds the reading method underneath it, so the score holds when the adaptive test starts pushing back. The modules are checked against the official 2026 CBP guides, so no hour goes into a section that is no longer on your exam. I answer questions about either exam myself at [email protected].

What is the difference between the CBP Officer exam and the Border Patrol Agent exam?

Both are CBP entrance exams, but the parts differ. The Officer exam has three: the Candidate Experience Record (60-minute online questionnaire), the Writing Skills Test (63 minutes, computer-adaptive) and the Logical Reasoning Test (83 minutes at a testing center). The Agent exam has two: the Experience Record and the Logical Reasoning Test. There is no writing test on the agent exam. Both use the same type of Logical Reasoning Test and both need a rating of 70 to advance.

What is on the Border Patrol Agent entrance exam in 2026?

Exactly two parts: the Experience Record (an at-home background and experience questionnaire) and the Logical Reasoning Test (proctored, computer-adaptive, testing reasoning and judgment). There is no Spanish section and no Artificial Language Test on the entrance exam. Both moved to the Border Patrol Academy after hire.

Is Spanish on the Border Patrol exam?

No. Spanish is no longer on the Border Patrol entrance exam. The requirement moved entirely to the Border Patrol Academy, where new agents get 200+ hours of Spanish instruction after they are hired. You do not need Spanish to pass the entrance exam.

My exam is in a few days. Is this still worth it?

Yes, and that is who the path is built for. The core route is about three focused hours. The free diagnostic names the traps costing you points in five minutes, then you drill Logical Reasoning first instead of working the modules in order. Officers add the Writing Skills module second. Everything else can wait until after the exam.

Will the practice questions look like the real test?

The format matches: a short passage of facts, a positive or negative lead-in, five answer choices, and "none of these" as a live option. That structure comes from the official CBP preparation guides. What we cannot reproduce is the live item bank, because CBP does not release it, and neither can anyone else. Any site claiming real exam questions is either guessing or copying.

What is the passing score for the CBP exams?

A rating of 70 or higher is required to advance, on both exams. Veterans' preference points can be added to a passing rating.

How hard are the CBP entrance exams?

Both are the main screening gate of the hiring process. Commonly cited estimates put the Officer pass rate near 25 to 30 percent and the Agent pass rate near 40 to 52 percent. CBP publishes no official per-exam figure, so treat both as estimates.1 In both cases the Logical Reasoning Test is where most candidates are screened out, and it is the most trainable part.

Am I eligible to become a CBP Officer or Border Patrol Agent?

You must be a U.S. citizen, hold a valid driver's license, and have lived in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years. Border Patrol Agent applicants must be referred for selection before their 40th birthday, with waivers for certain veterans and for applicants with prior federal law enforcement service. Both roles carry a firearm, so a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction is a bar. Common disqualifiers include recent drug use, felony convictions and serious unresolved financial issues. The course opens with a full eligibility checklist so you know you qualify before you invest. CBP makes the final call: confirm your situation at careers.cbp.gov.

Do the two exams use the same Logical Reasoning Test?

They use the same type of computer-adaptive Logical Reasoning Test: a short passage of facts, a positive or negative lead-in, and five answer choices. The reasoning method is identical, which is why the same practice prepares you for both. The officer exam adds a Writing Skills Test that the agent exam does not include.

What is the Border Patrol physical fitness test?

The Pre-Employment Fitness Test (PFT-1) has three components: 25 sit-ups in 60 seconds, 20 push-ups in 60 seconds, and a step test stepping up and down a 14-inch step at a cadence of 120 steps per minute. Standards are the same for every applicant, and CBP provides a 6-week readiness program.3

How long does the CBP hiring process take?

The pre-academy process (entrance exam, structured interview, fitness test, polygraph, medical exam and background investigation) typically runs 12 to 18 months. Academy training follows: FLETC for officers, and the Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico for agents, including 200+ hours of Spanish.

What if the course does not help me?

7-day money-back guarantee: one email to support, no questions asked. The published pass rate across PrepTerminal courses is 92%, never 100%, because no honest prep can promise that.

Is this affiliated with U.S. Customs and Border Protection?

No. PrepTerminal is a fully independent test preparation service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by U.S. Customs and Border Protection. We reference CBP and Border Patrol names under nominative fair use solely to describe the exams this course helps you prepare for.
