The Predictive Index Assessments are a series of psychometric tests evaluating a candidate’s speed of learning new information, and if they have the right personality for the job. This is accomplished by two vital tests: the Cognitive Assessment and the Behavioural Assessment.

Predictive Index Cognitive Assessment

PICA is a 12-minute test that predicts future job performance in terms of cognitive ability. Consisting of 50 questions, this assessment demands a solid grasp of language skills, mathematical concepts, and the ability to translate abstract information into meaningful patterns.

Verbal Reasoning

This section assesses a candidate’s command of vocabulary, language proficiency, and comprehension. It comprises questions on word analogies, synonyms/antonyms, and verbal analysis.

Word Analogy

These questions evaluate the ability to comprehend and form connections between seemingly random words.

Synonyms & Antonyms

These questions assess your vocabulary strength, and the ability to grasp the meaning of particular words and identify their equivalents or opposites.

Verbal Analysis

These questions test language comprehension by presenting a passage or a set of assumptions followed by questions based on it.

Numerical Reasoning

This section assesses candidates’ understanding of basic mathematical operations, the ability to interpret data presented visually, and the skill to discern patterns within numerical sequences. It comprises questions on basic math, word problems, number series, and data interpretation.

Basic Math

These questions concentrate on the essentials of mathematics and applying these principles to reach the intended outcome.

Word Problems

Word problems hide mathematical problems within everyday situations. Candidates must pinpoint the critical numbers and apply them to find solutions.

Number Series

Number series is a key part of various cognitive tests, requiring the ability to spot patterns within numbers to achieve the desired outcome.

Data Interpretation

These questions mimic practical applications most closely, presenting numerical data through charts, graphs, and various visual formats, and require candidates to interpret this information accurately.

Abstract Reasoning

This section assesses candidates on their capacity to quickly comprehend, analyze, and identify patterns in visual elements. Developing this skill is challenging, demanding robust critical thinking and analytical skills. It comprises the next-in series, abstract analogies, odd one-out, and matrices.

Next in Series

Candidates need to analyze a figural series to spot the underlying pattern. They must then use this knowledge to predict the next figure in the series.

Abstract Analogies

These questions put a visual twist on word analogies by giving candidates a set of images to compare instead of words. They must then predict the missing image for the set.

Odd One Out

These questions present the candidates with a visual series and they must figure out which of the figures does not follow the same logic as the rest.

Matrices

Matrix questions differentiate themselves by displaying a grid of visual elements, with one part missing. Candidates are tasked with determining which option correctly completes the grid.

Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment

Grounded in workplace behavior theories, the Predictive Index Behavioral Assessment (PIBA) assesses work-related personality traits assisting recruiters in anticipating behavior. It aims to identify ideal roles based on individual needs and personality without categorizing results as pass or fail.

PIBA evaluates a candidate against 4 core and 1 secondary behavioral drives.

Question Format

This test is not timed but typically takes around 6 minutes to complete. Candidates are presented with two identical lists containing 86 adjectives related to the 5 behavioral drives.

  • Self Concept List: Candidates are instructed to choose adjectives that they believe describe how others expect them to behave.
  • Self List: Candidates are instructed to select adjectives they believe describe themselves.

Does Your Course Guarantee a Specific Score on the Exam?

No. Our course is designed to familiarize you with every aspect of the Predictive Index test, from the fundamentals to practice quizzes. But your final score is dependent upon a host of personal factors, such as your level of comprehension, regularity of practice, and factors like attentiveness.

What Is a Good Score for the Test?

The PICA and PIBA are qualitative assessments. You are not measured against other candidates but rather the target score set by the organization itself. So what is considered a good score can vary based on the role and organization you are applying for. However, the average raw score is 20 correct answers.

What if I Fail the Exam?

The Predictive Index Assessment is not a traditional test. As such, you cannot pass or fail an assessment. They simply measure your level of competence across various areas to figure out your strengths and weaknesses.

Do I Pay for the Test?

Generally, the applicant does not pay for the test. The cost is covered by the organization you are applying for. You should only be concerned with the test preparation for PICA and honesty in answering questions when it comes to the PIBA.

Can I exceed the time limit for the PICA?

Typically, you only get 12 minutes to answer all the questions presented in the PICA. Once this time limit expires, your scores are calculated based on the number of questions you answered correctly. Employers do not expect you to answer every question within this time limit, however, in special cases, such as for accommodating candidates with disabilities, they can be administered an extended version of the test.
